Bali Itinerary: How to Spend 5 Days
Bali Itinerary: How to Spend 5 Days
Bali pairs lush rice terraces with surf beaches and clifftop temples. Distances look short but roads are slow, so hire a private driver for day trips and use ride-hailing apps in town.
Day 1: Ubud
Settle into the cultural heart of the island. In the morning, walk the Tegallalang rice terraces and visit the Sacred Monkey Forest. Afternoon: browse Ubud's art markets and craft galleries. For dinner, try nasi campur, a mixed rice plate, or slow-cooked babi guling suckling pig.
Day 2: Around Ubud
Rise early for a sunrise climb up Mount Batur, or visit the Tirta Empul water temple and a jungle waterfall. Spend the afternoon at a yoga class or spa. Sample bebek betutu, spiced slow-roasted duck, at a traditional warung. Small family-run warungs often write menus only in Indonesian, so photographing them to translate makes ordering local dishes much easier.
Day 3: Seminyak and Canggu
Move to the coast. Lounge on Seminyak's beach clubs in the morning, then explore Canggu's surf breaks and cafe scene. Beginners can take a surf lesson on the gentle waves. At sunset, sip a drink on the sand and order grilled ikan bakar, fresh fish with sambal.
Day 4: Uluwatu
Head to the dramatic southern cliffs. Spend the day at white-sand coves like Padang Padang, then visit Uluwatu Temple perched above the ocean. Stay for the fire-lit Kecak dance at sunset, with chanting performers and crashing surf below. Eat fresh seafood barbecue down at Jimbaran Bay, toes in the sand.
Day 5: Island Hopping
Take a fast boat to Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands for snorkeling with turtles and bright reefs. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and cash, as ATMs are scarce. Return for a final sunset and a bowl of mie goreng, fried noodles, before you fly home.
Quick Tips
- Carry small rupiah notes for warungs and temples.
- Dress respectfully and wear a sarong at temples.
- Drink bottled water only.
- Traffic is heavy; pad extra time around Canggu.
Five days let first-timers balance Bali's spiritual highlands, surf beaches, clifftop temples, and island reefs.
